The self-inflicted injury indicator available on the Mental Health Dashboard was updated in February 2025 to remove the ICD-10-CM code Z91.52, Personal history of nonsuicidal self-harm. This code was added to the ICD-10-CM standard with an effective date on October 1, 2021. Removing this code decreased the annual self-inflicted injury emergency department visit counts for North Carolina residents in NC DETECT by 12.7% in 2023 and by 10% in 2022. Impact at the county level varies.
